About Us

Jim and Sonja Brodie have been growing food for self-sufficiency on their 1.5-acre smallholding in Galloway since 2014. They haven’t bought any fruit or vegetables since 2016 and don’t buy any inputs, like compost or even seeds. Jim is a biologist by training, with a PhD in Developmental Biology, and now works in the third sector. His current day job is spreading friendship across Dumfries and Galloway with befriending charity A Listening Ear. Sonja is a freelance journalist, copy-editor and proofreader. She is editor of the ecological magazine Reforesting Scotland.
